I love all things Fall – the crisp smells, the sounds of crunching leaves and falling rain, the cozy clothes – but I especially love the spooky movies. I’m a sucker for a good thriller. Of course, now that we have littles, I can’t exactly indulge in all my typical haunts. I’ve put together a list of Halloween movies everyone can enjoy!
*There are 7 movies total, but 2 of them are a little scarier and probably more appropriate for older kiddos.
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. – This is a classic and, as is typical of Charlie Brown, such a cute story.
Hocus Pocus* – We watched this on repeat when I was a kid. It now airs on Disney and on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) as part of their 13 Nights of Halloween. It is a bit more mature, which is why it’s probably better suited for your older kids.
Monster House – We LOVE this movie. It’s so funny and a bit creepy, which makes for a fun Halloween film! Plus, it’s one of few movies Lily (our tw0-year-old) will actually sit through.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad – This is another one from my Halloweens growing up. I always found it kind of scary. It’s Disney’s version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, so it’s animated and there are songs. 🙂
Casper – An adorable ghost that turns into Devon Sawa? Yes, please! The 90s kid in me still loves this one. It’s equal parts funny and spooky – a perfect mix for family movie night!
The Goonies* – This is another one that is a bit more mature (There’s some language and other things.), but it is such a classic.
Trick or Treat on Sesame Street – This is Lily’s favorite, of course. She watches it over and over and over. It’s super cute and includes all things typical of Sesame Street – songs, lessons on letters and numbers and feelings, and a fun dance!
What are your family Halloween favorites??
